Sculptor, draughtsman and teacher, Elizabeth Frink studied at Guildford School of Art, 1947-49 and Chelsea School of Art, 1949-53, under Willi Soukhop and Bernard Meadows. The heavy jawed face with a stern, downturned mouth, cauliflower ear, broken nose and deep-set eyes is characteristic of many of Frink's bronze heads and over the years she established herself as a sculptor concerned with themes - goggle men, running men, horses without riders. Elizabeth Frink worked on many public commissions and some memorable church commissions, including a monumental figure of Christ for the Anglican Cathedral in Liverpool. She exhibited internationally and her work is held in major collections including the Tate Gallery and Arts Council. |
