Bellany C.B.E., R.A.
Painter born into a fishing family at Port Seton, East Lothian, Scotland. Attended Edinburgh College of Art, 1960-65 during which he won an Andrew Grant Scholarship allowing him to travel to Paris where, for a number of years with Alexander Moffatt, he exhibited his works outside of the R.S.A., in the Northern European Expressionist-Realist tradition. Bellany studied at the Royal College of Art 1965-68 and continued to develop his personal symbolism. He is recognised as an artist of international stature, has had many solo exhibitions both in the UK and abroad and his works are in principle public galleries including the Tate Gallery and Scottish Gallery of Modern Art.
